Wow, my first blog...I'm so excited! I've been thinking about things to post all day. First I want to state: I am in no way an expert or professional in the health and fitness field. Anything that I post is either my opinion or something that I learned from someone or somewhere else.
So I want to start out by stating the purpose of me creating this blog.
1.) I want to help inspire and motivate all of you in your weight loss journey. I will be posting my own recipes and workouts, and things that I come across (of course I will credit everything that I post).
2.) I want you all to motivate me. So please comment on my posts, share with your friends and family, let me know that you read them, whatever it is, motivate me! This is going to hold me accountable for my own weight loss journey. I am going to be completely truthful with you in my losses and gains. It's a scary thought, but I need to do it in order to really be successful. I encourage you to be open with me too. Whether it be in a private message or in the comments. Let's encourage each other!
So let me tell you a little bit of my workout background...
Junior year of high school my mom gave me a membership to Curves. As well as playing on 2 different softball teams, this was the fittest I had ever been in my "adult" life.
So then I went to college, gained a whole lot of weight and felt horrible about myself. I was comfortable but still felt horrible. I went to the gym every now and then but really didn't know what I was doing. My max weight at this point was 227. As soon as I saw that number I knew I had to change. So the summer of 2011, right after graduation I joined Planet Fitness. I didn't know anyone there but I went. I definitely didn't have any motivation, was not seeing any results and didn't know what I was doing.
My boyfriend decided to join LA Fitness in 2012 so in January 2012 I decided to join as well. I felt like he would hold me accountable for going. I looked into having a personal trainer and I started with him in July, twice a month. When I started with him, I weighed 217. Months went by and I didn't really see a big difference, a few pounds here and there. Then something clicked. I knew what was missing...a change in my diet. You always hear that diet is just as important as exercise. In my opinion, it's 75% diet 25% exercise.
The past few years that I have been working out, I didn't change my diet. I always ate salads and "healthy" foods but I never gave up the junk and I didn't really know what healthy eating was. So I started Weight Watchers right around the New Year. It wasn't a resolution because I don't really like resolutions. I just wanted to do it. When I started WW I was 211.
Obviously I longed to be out of the 200's. I made it to One-derland on February 11th. This was a HUGE moment for me. So now that I know how to do the whole diet and exercise thing, I would LOVE to share with everyone. And I also want to learn from you all!
My current weight: 195. My goal for this week? 6 lb loss.
So this was just an introductory post for you to get to know me. I know it's pretty revealing but please no negativity on this post. I'm here to encourage and I want to gain supporters out of this. And I will support you as well.
Next time I post I promise there will be some helpful tips and we'll get the ball rollin... ;)
Thanks for reading "Baby got back...into shape". I love my supporters and I hope this will help you all! :)
Amy, this is incredible! I'm already inspired :) I also look up to the fact that you're so truthful already. I'm a chicken when it comes to my story. I will be following your posts and will give you all the advice that I can! I have really been struggling with my weight loss/body image for a long time now, and I will be truthful when I tell you that it has become a psychological problem of mine that has taken over my life. I believe that this may be something that will help me! I'm so thankful you started this! I look forward to it!

DeleteYou go, Girl! :) You're such an inspiration to others, keep it up :) I'm excited to read your new posts!!
ReplyDeleteHey Dana! Thank you so much!! Your support means the world :)
DeleteI have a VERY similar story, so I am glad to hear about yours and that I am not alone. So far I have lost 45lbs since my heaviest in 2011. I still have a long way to go, 90 lbs, to reach my goal. I know if I was more dedicated I could get it off faster, but I also want to enjoy life, food, friends, fun and vacations, so I have periods of no loss, but as long as it keeps going in the right direction, that is what counts. The positive side of this is, when I do reach my goal I have mastered the art of maintaining and know how to do it. I have major goal to lose 24 pounds by June (3 pounds per week) I know this is almost un-realistic to lose a significant amount every single week, but if I try my best I will be happy with the outcome - no matter what it is. EAT CLEAN, THINK POSITIVE, PATIENCE AND PERSISTENCE!!!
ReplyDeleteSo I typed out a long response on my phone and something went funky and I lost the whole thing...so I am going to try to repeat myself haha
DeleteTHANK YOU so much for sharing your story and congratulations on 45 pounds. That's outstanding! I appreciate your support and hopefully we can reach our goals together. :)
3 pounds a week is very realistic. No one said it would be easy, but it is doable. And trust me, I completely understand the living life thing...and thank you for mentioning that. That will be one of my new blog posts :) Love the quote too...I will definitely be quoting you in the future. Haha
So you probably already know all of this but just a little help in getting to your goal: Check your diet and make sure it is on point. Stay away from sodium and sugars as much as possible. Try to drink at least 8, 8oz glasses of water a day, (my trainer wants me to drink 10, 8oz glasses). I actually take a tumbler to work with me every day and I know that it is 16 oz so I need to drink my tumbler 5 times.
On top of that, make sure you get your butt up and moving! ;) Never do the same workout back to back days. I do the treadmill almost every day but I do a different workout every time that week. ( I'll post more about that next time.)
Last thing, shake it up a little! Give yourself another goal such as do a workout outside once a week. We have so many parks around my house, my boyfriend and I go to Valley Forge or French Creek to walk around. It's fun and awesome to be outside!
That's all I have for you, and like I said, you probably already know all these things but I just want to make sure I'm helping if at all possible. I look forward to helping each other on this journey! And please feel free to post on here any new things that you try and find that they work or are just too fun not to share!
Good luck!
